Summer reminds me of children saying goodbye to their teacher on the last day of school, bike rides under the scorching sun, casual games with friends, and days at the beach.
Summer has a powerful evocative quality: the sea and wide open spaces suggest immensity and freedom, while the light bathes the Mediterranean countryside in shades of yellow and orange. The intensity of red, cheerful and luminous tones, ochre, and blues tinged with green… Summer is a time for dreaming. Summer radiates optimism and vitality.
Every year, summer makes me reflect, because, as Don Luigi Giussani said, and I quote: “What a person truly wants, whether young or adult, is understood not by how they work or study—which is what they are obliged to do—not when they act out of convenience or social obligations, but by how they spend their free time.”
