August 20, 2024
I spent this August between Badajoz and Guipúzcoa. Well, and Madrid too, there was some pending work, I’ll tell you about that another day. Summer of contrasts; the largest and smallest province; yellows and ochers in one, green and blue in the other; heat and txirimiri.
In Badajoz, quiet, village life, books and swimming pool. In summer I take the opportunity to read, which is another way of traveling, and if I read while traveling, I travel twice. One of my readings has been Chronicle of the Bird that Winds Up the World by the everlasting Nobel candidate Hakura Murakami, a delirious and hypnotic story, in which fantasy and reality merge, jumps in time, narratives of the Second World War and a mystery that the protagonist must solve.
In Guipúzcoa, parties, beach and a must-see visit to Chillida Leku, in Hernani, a beautiful space dedicated to the work of Eduardo Chillida, where nature and art coexist. In the photo, Hokusai’s House, a work in which Chillida pays tribute to the Japanese artist, author of The Great Wave off Kanagawa. It seems to me that there is a connection between both authors, in the search for nature and their almost spiritual connection with it. In San Sebastián, as you already know, and if you don’t know I’ll tell you, going for pintxos is now a custom almost more typical of French tourists than of Spanish ones. This time I have tried some new places in Gros and Eguía and the truth is, they have not disappointed me. It’s always easy to get it right there.
In Madrid, I find a Japanese cooking kit and some instructions to take my first steps in that gastronomic universe. Well here we go. Already back from Japan, sorry, I say from Extremadura and the Basque Country, looking forward to an exciting September. I hope your summer went great and you were able to rest, even just a little.
