There are people who, when traveling, like to have everything tied up, follow a program, know what they are going to do at all times, with no room for improvisation. Others like to plan just enough and go with the flow, without an established program or, if there is one, going off script. Some care about the destination, they want to go to one place and stay there; Others like to travel aimlessly on secondary roads. They enjoy the journey.
When I paint, I begin a journey into the unknown. My journey begins with the first splash of color and ends when I feel it is over. Throughout the trip I discover things that were not in the script and I decide to stay, or not. I could seek assurances, have everything reserved and know exactly the time and places I am going to visit, but that is putting locks on improvisation. For me, the freedom to be surprised is superior to the security of controlling the entire process. It’s an act of faith.
I leave you, above, a detail of my last pictorial trip, and below these lines, the image of a painting that I painted many years ago and that today, writing, has come to my memory, it is titled “Road trip”, you see that The style is different, impressionistic. And how do you like to travel?
